Jonathan E. Butterfield was born and grew up in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.  He interrupted his college career, at Bucknell University, to serve as a medic in Vietnam with the United States Army.  Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to Bucknell University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English.  He obtained his law degree at Northeastern University School of Law in Boston in 1976. 

Jonathan is active in various community organizations.  He has served as President of Williamsport-Lycoming Habitat for Humanity, Susquehanna Legal Services, North Penn Legal Services, and the Lycoming Law Association.  He has been a member of the Board of Directors of Friends of the James V. Brown Library, and the Williamsport Downtown Business Association.  In 1991, he received the Lycoming Law Association Equal Access to Justice award for pro bono service to the community. 

Jonathan has a general civil practice, with an emphasis in estate planning and probate, litigation, including commercial and personal injury, and social security.
